Installing Faucets

Related Articles
Installing new faucet is easy as you can put in the parts before placing the sink but if the sink is already in place you can access only from underneath. In this case though basin wrench can extend your reach, but still the task is awkward.

If you want to remove an old faucet what you need to do is turn off the shut-off valves at the supply tubes. After this remove the nuts which connects the supply tubes to the tail pieces of the faucet. Water should be drained in the supply tubes into a bucket or bowl. Lift out the faucet after removing the locknuts and the washers on both tail pieces.

In case the sink you are working with has a pop-up assembly, remove it before installing the faucet.

For hooking up the new faucet use flexible supply tubes because this will make your task easier as no cutting or fitting of lines is required.

Installation Steps
Following are the installation Tips of Faucets:
  • Before placing the faucets, first clean the surface and then insert the rubber gasket between the faucet's base plate and the sink top to create a watertight seal. In the absence of gasket seal the perimeter of the faucet base and then insert the tailpieces through the holes in the sink top.

  • If water-supply tubes are already attached to the tailpieces of your faucet, feed them through the middle sink hole. After this press the faucet into position on the sink. Later thread a washer and mounting nut onto each tailpiece and then tighten the nuts firmly with a wrench.

  • For split-set faucets, connect the valves to the spout. Connecting piece should be wrapped with pipe wrap tape and then connect them with the flexible hoses supplied .

  • Nearly all bathroom faucets come with a pop-up mechanism, attach the pop-up mechanism to the tailpiece but take care to thread the pivot rod into the opening at the bottom of the drain stopper.

  • Attach the lift rod to the pivot rod via the extension rod supplied. This should be however done after inserting the lift rod in the hole in the spout. Adjustment should be made so that drain stopper opens and closes properly when the lift rod is operated. Faucet's hot and cold supply tubes should be connected properly after which they should be bended to meet the shutoff valves. Finally the compression nuts or flared fittings should be tightened and leaks checked.
