Bathroom sinks are important fixtures that needs special care
and attention during installation. Installing a high style piece of sink
can change the overall look of the bath room. Recently designers have
created a wonderful smorgasbord of high-style bathroom lavatories which
has turned the fixture into a work of art.
The categorization of bathroom sinks depends lot on their support
method. The popular type of lavatories are counter top-mounted, pedestal,
wall-mounted, under mounted, and above-counter. Console is a popular
variety which is supported by table-like legs.
Usually lavatory bowls combine with a counter top capping a vanity
cabinet. This setup helps in hiding the plumbing and provides storage
and counter space.
Water is prevented from spilling by a pop-up stopper and an overflow
hole.
Cleaning Clogged Sink Drains
The drains of the bathroom sinks are connected with pipes, traps, and
clean outs. Due to various reasons these drains gets clogged thereby
creating lot of problems. There are different techniques through which
these drains can be cleared.
The first way to clear the drain is the use of plunger. Prior to the
using of plunger you first ensure that the suction cup of the plunger is
large enough to cover the drain opening otherwise your work will pay you
nothing. In the exercise, basin should be filled with enough water to
cover the plunger cup. The rim of the cup should be coated tightly in
order to seal the drain tightly. All the outlets should be covered
tightly in order to create vacuum. Once you have a tight seal use strong
strokes continuously. Try it many times to get the result.
In case your drain is clogged completely, you should avoid the use of
chemicals. If you are using chemicals make sure that you are wearing
gloves and eye protector, the room has good ventilation etc. Use right
kind of chemicals for example use alkali for cutting grease and an acid
to dissolve hair, soap, etc. Do not mix chemicals and avoid using
chemicals with plunger.
You can also use drain auger which removes filters and clear the drain.
First hook the blockage. Once it is hooked, pull the drain auger back a
little to free it, then again push it through. If possible pull the clog
out. If you cant feed the auger through the drain, try feeding it
through a system clean out.
Use a drain auger to snake a drain. For access, first remove the
stopper, then work the snake down the drain and turn the handle to bore
through the clog and push it through the pipe or pull it out. If the
clog is deep, remove the sink trap and unscrew the couplings. After this
you can push a drain auger through the drain pipe to free or extract the
clog.
